A luxurious rum with rich flavors of honey, butterscotch, and dark chocolate, offering a smooth and complex tasting experience.
Ron Zacapa 23 is a premium aged rum from Guatemala, celebrated worldwide for its exceptional quality and unique aging process. Created in 1976, this prestigious spirit has become synonymous with luxury rum production.
Making Process
The production of Ron Zacapa 23 employs the Sistema Solera aging method, traditionally used in sherry making. Virgin sugar cane honey from Guatemala's coastal plains is fermented before distillation. The rum is then aged in a series of barrels that previously held American whiskey, sherry, and Pedro Ximénez wines.
What makes Zacapa unique is its aging warehouse location - 2,300 meters above sea level in the Guatemalan highlands. This altitude slows the aging process, allowing for more complex flavor development.
Taste Profile
- Nose: Sweet aromas of honey, butterscotch, and spiced oak with hints of dried fruits
- Palate: Complex layers of vanilla, caramelized butterscotch, and toasted nuts, with subtle coffee notes
- Finish: Long, warm, and exceptionally smooth with lingering notes of dark chocolate and spice
Territory
Ron Zacapa comes from Guatemala, where the rich volcanic soils and diverse climate zones create ideal conditions for sugarcane cultivation. The sugar cane is grown in the southern coastal plains, while aging takes place in the cooler highlands near Quetzaltenango.
