Valserrano Rioja Crianza: A Taste of Rioja Tradition
Valserrano Rioja Crianza is a classic expression of Rioja, showcasing the region's rich heritage in producing elegant, age-worthy red wines.
Crafted by the respected Bodegas de la Marquesa (also known as Bodegas Valserrano), it embodies the vibrancy of Tempranillo and the influence of measured oak aging.
Tasting Notes
- Appearance: Expect a ruby red color with hints of garnet, indicating its time spent aging.
- Aromas: A bouquet of ripe red fruits (cherry, raspberry), subtle vanilla, warm spices (clove, cinnamon), dried herbs, and a hint of tobacco.
- Palate: Medium-bodied with balanced acidity and integrated tannins. Flavors will mirror the aromas, with red fruit and blackcurrant leading the way, evolving into notes of spice and a touch of earthiness from extended aging.
Understanding Rioja Crianza
- Tempranillo Dominance: The heart and soul of this wine is Tempranillo, a Spanish grape variety known for its red fruit character and ability to age gracefully.
- Oak Influence: "Crianza" designates a Rioja red wine aged for at least one year in oak barrels followed by time in the bottle. The oak adds vanilla, spice, and structure, complementing the fruit.
Winemaking
The composition is made up of 95% Tempranillo and 5% Mazuelo grapes. Cold maceration and fermentation at a controlled temperature to preserve all the fruity grape aromas and obtain the best colour extraction possible.
Aged for 18 months in American and French-oak casks, and kept for a few months in the vat to ensure good blending of the wine before bottling.
